On Wednesday, October 7, OpenAI began rolling out GPT-6 to a broad audience in ChatGPT. The new model comes with a feature called "Intelligent UI". Plus, Pro, Business and Enterprise subscribers got it the same day; rollout for free and low-cost Go users began the next day.
What happened?
Intelligent UI lets ChatGPT build its answer not just from text but from interactive parts. According to OpenAI, the model can produce graphs, tappable buttons, forms, charts and small interactive tools. Examples reported by TechCrunch and The Verge include a diagram showing how an airplane wing works, a drawing that highlights the parts of a seven-speed bicycle one by one, a map for a multi-day hiking route, a savings calculator and a bill-splitting tool.
The model chooses the format itself. In a comparison it can show side-by-side cards, in an explanation an interactive diagram; when plain text is enough, it answers in plain prose. OpenAI says it built this GPT-6 release for ChatGPT, which more than 1.2 billion people use every week. We told the story of how talking to a computer by clicking on something on screen began in 1964 with a wooden mouse in our post on the first computer mouse.
Why does it matter?
Chatbots have worked the same way for years: type a question, get a paragraph. Intelligent UI breaks that pattern; an answer can turn into a small app generated for that moment. This is a big convenience, especially for learning a topic and making everyday plans. On the other hand, having a tool inside the answer that does calculations does not take away the user's responsibility to check the result. Opening the feature to the free tier too could change the way a great many people interact with AI all at once.
